5 beauty tips every woman should know

Hello there! Today, I am going to share with you the 5 tips that every woman should know and have. I would also be introducing some of the products that I swear by to look my best everyday.

#Tip 1: Always remove your make-up no matter how tired you are

IMG_6372

I feel you… I know how it feels when you are just so tired to even get out of bed to bathe after a long day. However, when you do not remove your make-up, you are causing extensive damage to your skin during the night. By having make-up on, you are preventing your skin from renewing itself. A case study even showed that sleeping in your make-up for a month will cause your skin to age by 10 years. :0

#Tip 2: Use a mild/ gentle cleanser to clean your face if you have sensitive skin

IMG_3616

Nowadays there are many people with sensitive skin and some products contain certain ingredients that would irritate the skin even further, causing it to itch. I used to have really sensitive skin because of the antibiotics pills I ate to reduce the acne. I tried lots of face cleansers and they were too harsh for my face. It took me a long time to find out what were the brands and products that were suitable for me. What I usually do before buying a facial product is that I would do a patch test on my chin before purchasing the products.

#Tip 3: Never head out of your house without any sunscreen

IMG_0138

Sunscreen should be part of your skincare regime if you have not done so! The ozone layer is depleting and you need the sunscreen to shield your body from the harmful rays. Comparing someone who wears sunscreen and someone without will be very significant 10 years down the road. The constant sun exposure will cause premature aging, skin discolouration and brown spots. So sunscreen is a must! And try to avoid the sun in the middle of the day, from about 10 am to 3 pm because the UV Raya are the strongest during this time!

#Tip 4: Exfoliate your lips and prep your lips with lip balm before your lipstick/lipgloss

FullSizeRender (2)

One thing that I recently started doing is to use sugar as an exfoliator for my lips and it’s really a cheap and good substitute. After that, prep your lips with a great lipbalm before applying a lip gloss/ lip stick! This helps to fill in any cracks and even so if you are applying a matte lipstick as this will make it more smooth and even.

#Tip 5: Take supplements for your skin

IMG_3986

For me, I drink collagen drinks as it help to rejuvenate my skin. This helps to replenish the collagen lost and retain skin supplenesS.

These are the 5 must-haves that I adopt as part of my beauty regime! Share with me what are your everyday beauty regime as well! I would love to hear from you.

With Love,

Veron.

If drying your clothes is a pain, read this!

Hello earthlings,

I’m back again, this time to talk about what I am disappointed with the new HDBs.

I’ve reached the age where I would go for my friends’ house warming and I have many friends who purchased BTOs. I must say that the layout of the houses now have improved. There has been improvement in designs such as incorporating the dining area into the living room, which is something I really love because I like to watch the TV while eating my dinner 🙂 The service yard is also further away from the kitchen now so that laundry would not be affected by cooking fumes.  The common toilet has also been relocated from inside the kitchen to a location nearer to the bedrooms for the convenience of the children and also guests coming to the house.

However, what I am really disappointed is the design of the metal bars for the hanging of clothes and the service yard in the HDBs now. Many of my friends do not have a service yard, so they could only hang their clothes on the metal bars outside of their home. They were complaining to me that there were only 3 short metal bars which meant that the hanging of bed sheet was impossible.

Moreover, as they were lined horizontally and parallel to the wall, the clothes that were nearest to the wall did not receive as much sunlight as compared to the clothes that were hanged furthest from the wall, which means that clothes nearest to the wall would take the longest to dry. This problem is similar to the ones with the service yards as well, just that at least they have longer poles to hang more clothes.

While trying to help my newly-wed friends who have just moved into their new BTOs to solve this problem, I got to know about this brand- Steigen, where they came out with an  efficient solution to indoor drying conundrums.

IMG_9452

Now homeowners can dry their clothes without any hassle of worrying that their clothes will not be dried in time for the next day or there is not enough space to dry the big items like bed linens and blanket covers.

I went to the company to check out and test out their products.

IMG_9456

Currently, they have 4 automated laundry system.

steigen1

My favourite is the Exalt+ Solar because as you can see from the specs, there is twice the number of fans and heater which shortens the average drying duration to just mere 1-2 hours!

FullSizeRender_4

I think that if you are really considering an indoor automated drying system, it is a MUST to choose one that has the heat technology, if not, the average drying duration is still going to be pretty long!

There is a built-in heating technology to drive heat throughout laundry to allow clothes to dry evenly.

steigen 3

It is also customizable to fit HDBs with smaller yards. It is elderly friendly as it is very easy to operate and they  no longer have to hang their clothes on a bamboo pole and stretch out of the window to dry the clothes under the sun.

FullSizeRender_5

The remote device is also battery-operated for easy control. It can also be mounted anywhere in the house, even on the fridge!

IMG_9466

It is also obstacle friendly as the system will come to a stop if they detect an obstacle (like hitting my head accidentally).

IMG_9457

Now you might think that how is this different from using a dryer? This Exalt + Solar operates with only 0.9 kWh of energy, which is more energy efficient. Not only that, it eliminates 99.9% of bacteria and prevents musty odour (which always happens to me when I have to dry my clothes indoor during rainy days).

steigen 2.png

I have summarized the benefits of the Exalt + Solar system:

  1. Safe and effortless lifting of the laundry with the touch of a button.
  2. Can lift up to 35kg of clothes.
  3. Energy saving and cost efficient (It uses 550-1100 Watts of electricity, which is only $3.60 per month!)
  4. High quality (using German designed motor with reinforced hanger rods)
  5. Average drying time: 1-2 hours only
  6. Eliminates 99.9% of bacteria and prevents musty odour.

Who needs this Exalt + Solar system?

  1. People who are economical and environmentally friendly as they is definitely better than a tumble dryer.
  2. Working adults who can only do their laundry at night
  3. Those with aging/ elderly parents or senior citizens who are face issues with lifting heavy laundry
  4. People with a large family as the system can handle heavy weight of the clothes.

For my readers, there is a $50 discount upon checkout if you apply the discount code “STEIGEN50”. I’m definitely going to introduce this to my friends to solve their clothes drying problems! This is a MUST-HAVES for those who are looking to renovate their homes as well, why not incorporate this as part of the interior design?

The sacrifice of a mother

Hi there,

It’s been a while since I last blogged.

Sorry for the infrequent blog entries because I am still adapting to adulthood and working as a teacher. Life as a teacher is no easy feat at all! Although I must admit that it is very fulfilling especially you see your lower progress pupils improve, I think I kinda overworked myself recently.

Sometimes I just feel a little bad because I don’t get to spend as much time with my boyfriend, family and my ministry friends. But I thank God that they are really understanding and supportive of my dreams.

I realise that amidst the busyness, I miss spending time with my family the most. I miss the home cooked dishes by my mum like the old cucumber soup, egg fried rice with shrimps and not to forget the lotus soup with peanuts and pork. After a long day at work, I would always look forward having home-cooked meals like this that would be waiting for me at home. It’s wasn’t just about the food, but it’s about appreciating the love and effort put into the preparation of these meals.

I remember the days when I was younger where I would always pester my mum to walk me to the bus stop in the morning at 6.a.m as I was afraid of the dark. I remember clinging on to my mum and holding on to her hands while she walked me to the bus stop to wait for the school bus. Some kids around my age were rather independent and they would ask their parents to do that until they reach upper primary. But for me, somehow this morning routine lasted all the way till I finished my Junior College. I didn’t know how to appreciate how much she has contributed for the family when she had to juggle both work and household chores until now when I started work and I realised that having to do the household chores after work can be very tough when you are already tired after a long day at work.

Mummy I just want to say that I love you and thank you for the sacrifice you have made to the family. I appreciate you and your love for the family every single day and not just on Mothers’ Day. Being able to spend more time with you and loving you is my greatest honour.

The day I found my doppelgänger at Wild Wild Wet

Hello there!

Today I am going to share with you my virgin trip to the Wild Wild Wet! I know I’m a little “sua ku” but considering the fact that I live at the other side of Singapore all my life, the travelling time did made me contemplate whether it was worth it.

But after experiencing it myself, my verdict is: IT IS DEFINITELY WORTH MY TIME!

When I saw the campaign run by Wild Wild Wet- Seeing Double, I quickly grabbed my childhood friend along. We were super excited and even shopped together for matching clothes to dress for the occasion. We couldn’t wait to be part of the Singapore Book of Records for the ‘Largest Gathering of Dress Alike Duos’!

The perk of dressing alike is that we get to enter Wild Wild Wet for free and it’s double the fun for half the price at D’Resort, Orchid Bowl and eXplorerKid because we get to enjoy 50% discount for them!

Checkout the video below on our experiences:

Wild Wild Wet @ Downtown East recently completed its expansion to double its original size. Now, this place is approximately 4 hectares and they are house to 14 rides, with ‘The Woosh’ and ‘Royal Flush’ being the newest addition!

The Woosh

The Woosh.jpgImage by Wild Wild Wet

The first ride we tried was ‘The Woosh”. This was a ride/attraction that was newly launch in Wild Wild Wet. The Woosh is Singapore’s longest inflatable freestyle water slide, where guests can slide down the entire length of 50m from a height of 4.5m in almost any way possible. The dual lanes meant that my dear friend Lingling and I can compete with each other to see who can slide further!

The ride was exciting but I think that it could have been better if I could slide all the way to the end! Maybe my “general potential energy” wasn’t high enough or the friction wasn’t low enough to bring me all the way to the end of the slide haha. Hopefully the next time when I visit the attraction, I would be able to do that!

-More visuals in my video-

Let’s talk about my favourite ride/ attraction-

Torpedo

SONY DSCImages by Wild Wild Wet

I thought I nearly died because my heart totally dropped as I was dropped from a height of 18.7 metres (6 storeys) without any harness or support. I didn’t help to calm me down when I had to hear them playing “5, 4, 3, 2, 1, AHHHHH” followed by a Witch laugh, through a sound system while queuing for the ride. I guess the ride was really popular because of how thrilling it is. So, the queue was pretty long, I waited for like 15-20 minutes for my turn. You can imagine me hearing that ‘music’ playing from the sound system on replay for countless times… But I MUST ADMIT THAT IT WAS REALLY THRILLING AT THE MOMENT OF THE ‘DROP’! I came down so fast that I didn’t even had time to screem hahaha. This ride was my favourite 🙂

Royal Flush

Wild Wild Wet - Royal Flush (2)

Wild Wild Wet - Royal Flush 1Images by Wild Wild Wet

If you think that ‘ular-lah’ was fun, ‘Royal Flush’ is even better because there’s more twirl and swirl! Royal Flush is Asia’s first hybrid ride combining the Behemoth BOWL40 and TornadoWAVE – effectively combining two rides into one unique experience. This is my second favourite and this is also a new key attraction that was opened in March this year!

Kids Zone

Wild Wild Wet - Kidz Zone (1)

For younger kids, there is the Kidz Zone, a set of 5 miniature rides and slides that are suitable for kids. I really love their kids zone! How I wish I had this when I was young, I bet I’ll ask my parents to bring me here often! These rides are specially catered to kids and families and I love how colours of these slides are so vibrant!

Taiwan Beauty products Yay or Nay

Hello there!

It’s May already and that means that almost half a year has gone. I would say that I have accomplished much in 2017. I learnt how to be stronger, better, and definitely to step out of my comfort zone to explore new things that I had never dreamt of. So many thoughts in my mind right now but I would leave that in my next #thought post.

Today I’m sharing with you some beauty products from Taiwan.

  1. Cleopatra VII Pilopator mask
  2. DD Cream by Userism
  3. Brush by LAMSAMYICK

Cleopatra VII Pilopator mask

I was intrigued by the packaging and just had the urge to google a little more about who this Cleopatra VII is. Apparently she was an ancient beauty and I had a little history lesson after learning about her rise and fall.

I tried them on in the morning before going out and I could feel that my skin is still soft at the end of the day.  So I would highly recommend this for women out there with really dry skin. So I would say Yay to this Cleopatra VII Pilopator mask from All Belle, Taiwan as it is more moisturizing than normal masks that I have tried and the moisture could last me an entire day out.

Brush by LAMSAMYICK

Some masks do not come with any mask sheets so I thank God for this mask brush that helps me to easily apply them onto my face without dirtying my hands. It is really soft and it is easily washable. I love the sleek design and how it is small and I can easily bring this on my travel. So yay to this product as well. But that being said, although I love everything about this, I think most of the masks I have purchased, maybe 8/10 of them comes with mask sheets nowadays, so I would question its practicality sometimes. So this product may be a nay to some if you are tight on budget?

DD Cream by Userism

Although this DD it is liquid form, it gives a matte finish. Hence, you don’t have to worry about having an oily glow on your face. For some of you who do not know, DD cream stands for Daily Defense cream. So DD cream also acts as a physical sunscreen. I like this DD cream because it is sweat resistant so it is very suitable for application during summer or in tropical weathers like Singapore. So Yay to this product!

I found a remedy for my chapped lips

Hello everyone!

It’s been a while since I last blogged and today I am going to share with you my remedy to my chapped lips.

I must admit that I am guilty of not drinking enough water (the suggested 8 glasses of water per day), which is one of the contributing factor to having chapped lips.

Sometimes I would shove this problem aside, other times, I would try to lick my lips to make them feel moisturized. But each time I do that, it made my lips feel even more dry than before.

So recently I tried the Himalaya Lip Care and I am in love with these 4 scents that I have gotten!

You can check out the video below to see the swatches and my review of these lip balms.

Pros:

  • Affordable
  • Nice scent
  • Nice to glide on
  • Super moisturizing

Cons:

  • No SPF

In conclusion, I really love the scent from the Lip balm. It is a pity that they do not have any SPF. If they have this, it would have been perfect!

I would definitely recommend this product to everyone with chapped lips because I find them really moisturizing and the scent is awesome too! Tell me how do you find the lip balm after applying and I would love to hear from you!

First Ever Beauty Show by Sample Store

Sample Store’s first ever Beauty Show was held at Carnivore Brazilian Churrascaria at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands recently and I had a marvelous time at the Beauty Show.

We were served with a hearty lunch provided by Carnivore Brazilian Churrascaria. For those meat lovers, this is for you! I have tried their buffet lunch on a separate occasion with my friends and the meat buffet was a spread! They serve several different kinds, familiar meats like pork rib, sausages and ham, but also more exotic ones like beef hump, beef rump cap and chicken heart.

The waiters would move around with skewers, slicing the meat at your table. If you are full or you would like to skip that particular kind of meat, all you have to do if to flip the card over to “no thanks”. Of course, if you would like to have more, simply flip your card over to the side “yes, please”. Carnivore also has a salad bar inside the restaurant. So meat lovers out there, don’t forget to check that out!

Address: 2 Bayfront Avenue, #01-80 The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, Marina Bay Sands, 018972

Sample Store’s Beauty Show started with the local celebrity host, Hossan Leong appearing on stage and singing a short phrase of “月亮代表我的心” by 邓丽君 (Teresa Teng) to capture everyone’s attention and stir up the atmosphere.

FullSizeRender (7)

Then, it was the guest appearance of the finalists from SING!China Season 2 Singapore.

FullSizeRender (8)

Followed by skincare and makeup demonstrations by Candy Tiong, a celebrity makeup artiste where she uses famous beauty products from Taiwan brought in by Beauty Keeper.

FullSizeRender (10)

She started by showing how you can improve your skin texture by daily massage.

FullSizeRender (15).jpg

After you have massaged, pump some pulsed mask foaming face cleansers by MD/ AA Jiao to increase skin hydration and smoothness, tighten pores and condition oil secretion.

FullSizeRender (17)

Next, apply oil & water dual balancing gel. I like how it can tighten enlarged pores and helps in controlling sebum secretion. It is also really petite and portable!

FullSizeRender (16)

Then, apply the bright whitening ultra-water facial masks. It is said that this mask is super hydrating and it can lasts you the whole day! Not only is it hydrating, it can also repair your skin damage.

FullSizeRender (18)

For men and women, who loves to wants to achieve a “no makeup” look, Candy recommended the D.D. Cream SPF 50 Dymanic All-Daily Defense. I’m not sure about you, but this is the first time I have heard of DD cream.

I have heard of BB and CC cream but not DD cream, so it was an eye opener for me. This DD cream helps to actively block out UV rays and not only that, it helps to isolate the face from dirt and dust too! It is a moisturizing and super light weight foundation that can act as a physical sunscreen and most importantly, it can lasts the entire day!

ddcream.jpg

Candy also taught us how to do a daily makeup suitable for working and how to transform a day makeup to a night makeup.

Day Makeup:

  1. D.D. Cream SPF 50 Dymanic All-Daily Defense
  2. STARSUKI AUDACIOUS TRIO EYESHADOW
  3. LSY No.5 Series – Hello Kitty Eyeliner
  4. Rosy Pink Moisture Dew

FullSizeRender (19)

Have you ever smudge your eye liner or mascara and had to use a makeup remover to remove that area, but ended up the rest of your eye makeup as well? I have found a solution and that is a – Starsuki Super Perfect Remover Pen 2.0.

The makeup remover is already inside the pen. All you have to do is to swipe the pen over areas that needs to be removed. Because it has a fine tip, you can ensure that the rest of your eye makeup is still in tact! And because its small and handy, you can bring it out anywhere you go!

Night Makeup:

  1. Darkening the eye makeup using Starsuki Audacious Trio Eye Shadow
  2. Add a pair of false eye lashes by All Belle Unique Knitting Eyelashes
  3. Apply lipstick-Peachy Loverstruck in shade 10 by Starsuki
